The West Walker River meanders along the base of the Eastern Sierras through the town of Walker, Ca. and flows into Topaz Lake. This river is known for its trophy-size trout. The Eastern Sierras has some of California's finest trout fishing in it's rivers, lakes, and streams.
Little Walker : (Excellent)
This small river is near the junction of Hwy 108 & 395 and has a good population of rainbow trout. DFG stocks here throughout the season.
( Catching 8" to 12" )
Pickle Meadows: (Excellent)
On Hwy 108, Wading & Casting are easy in this area. This is a great place for kids when the runoff has subsided. There are some nice pools and a lot of area to fish here so you can take a little walk and have all the room in the world. These fish will hit pretty much anything that hits the water.
Fish in this area are on the small side 8 to 12" but plenty of them.
West Walker River: 8/7/11 (Excellent)
Eastern Sierra offers the best trout fishing of the year at this time, (June - Oct) when action on other waters are slowing down and getting tough, action on the West Walker enters in to its prime as the water level has dropped. Fish are hungry and will hit on most anything that hits the water. (bait, lures and flies) Fishing this time of year is EXCELLENT!!
Fishing here in the spring is on the slow side (May) the water is high and has color. Your level of skill will be tested this time of the year, the more experience fishermen will not have any problem catching nice size trout .
The West Walker is best known for its trophy size Rainbow trout (2# to 7#), a small population of German browns and plenty of 8" to 12" Rainbows. Mono County puts a load of Alper trout in monthly and the Northern Mono Chamber also plant the Alper trout from 2# to 7# range.
Robinson Creek:(Good)
This area has been well stocked with DFG fish.Fishing this little creekhas been real good. DFG is only stocking near the campgrounds.

DFG. 2010 Hatchery Status and Stocking Objectives:
Fish Springs Hatchery production was increased in 2008 to meet stocking objectives for Mono County waters.
Mono County allotment from DFG has been increased by 65,000 pounds of trout in 2008.
DFG is also adjusting the stocking frequency to a weekly schedule.
Heavy snow pack or high runoff may delay some of the stocking in the early part of the season.
Mono County will be stocking 5 loads of Tim Alper's World Famous Trout in 2010 and 3 loads of 1# Rainbows and. Northern Mono Chamber will also be stocking Alper's throughout the season. Ad in the stocking from DFG, there is never a shortage of nice trout to be caught on the West Walker. High and fast water may delay the start of stocking.
Low water level may effect the stocking in the later part of the season.
The Rainbow Chasers Sportsmen Club, out of San Jose Ca., was here for their annual fishing trip to the West Walker River. Everyone caught nice fish. I'd like to thank all the members.
One hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset Night fishing is prohibited in Mono County
RECYCLE FOR FISH
Northern Mono Chamber and local businesses have started a recycling program for fish. All proceeds goes to the fish fund for stocking trophy fish in the West Walker River.
If you're com'in up..bring us your aluminum cans and plastic bottles (NO GLASS). You can drop them off at one of the participating businesses.
MeadowCliff Lodge, West Walker Motel, Andruss Motel,
Sierra Retreat, General Store, Country Store
or you can bring them by the Toiyabe Motel where the sorting takes place before the recycling.
